A trip to the coast always makes for a lovely day out, but you often end up spending more than you need to- normally just through a lack of planning! Using this advice, you can plan your perfect day out, but without the expense that usually comes with it. Whatever your interests, and whether you are with children or not, there is something for everyone that won’t break the bank!
Nelson Museum- Great Yarmouth
This museum is great because not only does it allow you to squeeze some culture into your visit to Great Yarmouth, but is also a great solution if the weather isn’t on your side. The museum contains information about Lord Nelson’s childhood in Norfolk, as well as the rest of his life. The mixture of interactive activities, games and the relaxing herb garden makes it great for children and adults alike. Also, with family tickets costing just £12, it certainly won’t break the bank- and you can even enjoy your own picnic in the designated area!
Great Yarmouth To Caister Walk
Who says you have to pick between Great Yarmouth and Caister, when this charming route will lead you from one to the other in around 6 miles. You’ll get to see some beautiful sight along the way as you pass along the path of the River Bure, Bure Park and the North beach and seafront in Great Yarmouth. You could stop for a drink in a pub along the way, or take your own picnic to really keep costs down!
A trip to the beach wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the amusement arcades! If unplanned, these can get pricey- but why not turn it into a competition to save money! Give everyone in the group the same (small amount of money) and turn it into a competition to see who can make it last the longest, or who can make the most on it!
Merrivale Model Village- Great Yarmouth
Great Yarmouth is known for model village, and it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the town for the day. It’s set in over an acre of landscaped gardens and can be a great place for a relaxing stroll after a busy day in the bustle of the town. It costs under £10 per adult (though discount vouchers can often be found online and in local papers) and traditional crazy golf is included in the price.
Take A Picnic To The Beach
This may sound like a very obvious option for a day out on the Norfolk coast, but it definitely shouldn’t be underestimated! If you have children, take a ball and a frisbee to keep them entertained before and after food; if you’re going as a couple take a blanket and some books and magazines and enjoy being outside in the fresh air. Not only does this mean you won’t be wasting money on expensive restaurants, it also means you won’t waste time deciding on where you should eat and can get on with enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
Given that there really is so much to do in Caister and Great Yarmouth, there is something for everyone, regardless of your interests or budget! But if you are looking to keep costs down, the best thing to do is plan ahead!
